Contracts, Policies & Leadership Development for a Specialist Engineering Business
A privately owned professional services consultancy with 25 employees.

The Challenge
The leadership team approached Rinew Legal as they were experiencing recurring staff issues and increasing pressure at senior level. HR matters were frequently landing with directors, taking valuable time away from running and growing the business.
A number of underlying factors were contributing to the problem. Contracts and policies had not been updated for some time; there was uncertainty regarding changes to employment law; and management approaches across the business had developed inconsistently over the years.
Although improving the HR infrastructure had been on the to-do list for some time, it had continually been pushed down the priority list.
With long-term growth and future sales in mind, the leadership team recognised the need to:
- Reduce legal and operational risk
- Create consistency in how people issues are managed
- Free up senior management time
- Put stronger foundations in place for the future of the business
Our Role
We began by carrying out a full review of the company’s employment contracts and policies. These were redrafted and implemented across the business as a structured project, ensuring the documentation was modern, compliant and aligned with the way the company operated.
During this process, it became clear that many of the recurring issues were not simply about documentation. Management approaches had developed informally over time, and, in difficult situations, some managers were unsure how best to respond.
To address this, we designed and delivered a practical leadership and management development programme. The sessions used real examples from the business and scenario-based discussions to help managers understand both the legal framework and the practical steps needed when dealing with people issues.
The focus was on giving managers a clear and consistent framework so they could deal with situations confidently and fairly.
The Outcome
The impact was noticeable almost immediately. Managers who had initially been cautious in the sessions became increasingly engaged, asking questions and working through real situations they were facing within the business.
The programme helped the company achieve:
- Greater confidence and consistency among managers
- A significant reduction in day-to-day HR issues
- Improved understanding of risk and process
- Valuable time back for the senior leadership team
HR matters moved from being reactive and time-consuming to structured and controlled. The leadership team were able to focus again on running and developing the business.
The programme proved so valuable that we now return every six months to deliver ongoing leadership development sessions.

“Rinew Legal helped us bring real structure to how we manage people across the business. Our managers are far more confident now, and it’s taken a lot of pressure off the leadership team.”
